Fierce Freedom is a platform that asks people of the 21st century to question the systems of oppression and exploitation that rule our world today and therein, imagine a more just and love-based social and political ecosystem. Freedom never comes easy, be it political or spiritual. Its pursuit must be relentless and tenacious—a fierce enterprise, a brave venture into the unfamiliar.
Will Chesson created Fierce Freedom to expose our world's injustices and propose new approaches to the human curriculum. Fierce Freedom embraces all works of art that create change and inspire action, but Chesson's medium is storytelling. The stories we tell determine the beliefs we hold and how we show up for our people, community, and planet. The fiction and poetry on this site are meant to spark dialogue about the best arrangements we as humans can fashion for sustainable and loving life throughout the 21st century and beyond.
Chesson graduated with highest honors from UNC-Chapel Hill where he studied philosophy, literature, and Spanish. Always dedicated to education, he was then a teachNOLA Teaching Fellow in New Orleans for 6 years before enrolling in a Master's in Economics at the Universidad de Chile. Stuck in the mindstructs of capitalism, he abandoned the Master's, became a Hindu monk, and joined the team at Virtud y Saber, a holistic education project focused on nature, spirituality, and health. At Virtud y Saber, he was instrumental in keeping the project up and running, building classrooms, writing curriculum, and spearheading task forces while teaching full-time. Due to complications during the COVID pandemic, the school lost its funding, but as you'll see in Chesson's writings, he never stopped being an educator.
These days, Chesson lives in Atlanta with his family where he writes fiction, teaches yoga, and works as a full-stack software developer.
